Blogging from Minnesota

Here's a comprehensive roundup of "fake news" from the last few months, not just on CNN, but thw Washington Post and the New York Times.  I'm sure you saw none of the corrections.

For you Old Testament scholars, here's a terrific image of a burning bush

I'm not much of a fan of Ralph Nader. If things went his way, we would be in more trouble than Venezuela. However, here's a pretty entertaining interview where he criticizes the Democrat Party.

No blog update is complete with an insightful article on climate change. Here are confessions of a climate change denier

A Canadian sniper set a new world record by killing an ISIS fighter from two miles away

The Democrats lost the most expensive house election in history with the defeat of Jon Ossoff in Georgia. Here's what NYT's Maureen Dowd has to say

Uber has been in the news lately because the company has been run like a frat house instead of a real business. In particular, the human resources department grossly mishandled problems with sexual harassment. This issue has been thoroughly properly handled for a really long time, though it appears that there were no adults in charge at Uber. One engineer wrote a blog about her time there, which went viral on the Internet, and led to a shakeup including firing the head missogengist.  Read the compelling story.  And here's the actual blog

This article on coal mining is worth looking at just to see the picture of the dump truck and the shovel. Look for the human in the picture

Can a Libertarian be pro-life? Read the argument

California just donated $50 million dollars to illegal aliens. This should be good for Donald Trump's chances in the next election as well as real estate values outside California

Michael Goodwin is an exceptional journalist. Read this transcript about how the 2016 election killed journalistic standards.

The resistance is working to overthrow the 2016 election. Here's a roundup of the many ways they are trying.

James Mattis is blasting congress over the defense budget. There isn't one.

Is this the end of the beginning of Trump hysteria? Just like you can sense when winter is ending, is Trump hysteria ending?

Roundup is doing a lot to feed the world and make farming more productive. So why is the World Health Organization passing out bad information about this herbicide when they know better?

Before the election, we were told that Trump was a Nazi and his jackbooted thugs would take over and put people into camps and treat them as non-humans. Now the leftists are becoming what they warned us about.

Here's more on the leftists inciting violence.

Geologist Lucy Jones provides more fascinating detail on the coming earthquake in Southern California. Who knew things were so bad?

Would you believe Jupiter has 69 moons? Two more were just discovered.

Camile Paglia is my favorite liberal lesbian. Don't miss this insightful commentary on the election and other current events.

A lot of people think that an organization is good if they are "non-profit". Non-profit is actually an IRS status which means they don't have to pay taxes. Many of those organizations pay pretty generous compensation; the CEO of United Way makes over one million dollars a year. Here's a list of  what the non-profits in the Sacramento area pay their top executives.

Are you confused by LGBTQ and all the other gender identity issues?  USA Today has published a handy list with more than you ever wanted to know about all the definitions.  Do you think that these things don't matter?  In Canada, they just passed a law making it illegal to use the wrong gender identity phrases.

They are exploring the Abyss (that's really deep water) off Australia.  They have found some really strange creatures, many for the first time ever.  Click through this collection of photos of some interesting critters.

Liberals have completely changed their attitudes towards illegal immigration over the years. Read what Paul Krugman and Barack Obama had to say earlier, and what the left has to say now.

Margaret Thatcher is famous for saying that "the trouble with socialism is that sooner of later you run out of other people's money."  Illinois has gotten there, with their unfunded retirement liabilities and other social programs, they don't even have enough money to pay off their lottery winners.

In these days of political correctness, it turns out that having Christian beliefs disqualifies you for government service. Read what progressive favorite Bernie Sanders had to say on this subject. It appears he is drawing a distinction between nominal Christians and those aware of the actual tenants.

Watch this video of a world record domino fall.

Here's a pretty interesting history revised by the opening up of the Soviet Union archives. It turns out they did bad things.

This writer in the New York Times argues that the Democrat Party is in worse shape than you think. It seems the leadership has different attitudes than their constituents.

There is a group of intellectuals, influential commentators, and political leaders that are opposed to Donald Trump. Generally called "never trump", they have a number of concerns. Read what Victor Davis Hanson has to say about these concerns.  Dr. Hanson always has insightful commentary. For more of his writing, go here.

Jim Mullen writes a weekly generally funny weekly column.  In this one, he captures every popular Internet scam currently being perpetrated on the unsuspecting public.  If you read nothing else, read this column so you will be prepared for the next phone call.

Want to get into Princeton? First of all, it helps to be a minority, unless you're Asian-American of course. Look at how the scores compare for different ethnic groups. On top of that, you need to show cultural flavor, whatever that is.

An Army Ranger has written a book with excellent lessons for life. Read what he has to say about Benghazi

Donald Trump is being charged in the media with obstruction of justice. Read what liberal Alan Dershowitz has to say about the Constitution and the Executive Branch of government. It seems that the President can decide who gets justice.

James Comey prosecuted Martha Stewart and some other innocent people that you may not have heard about. Read about his long history of questionable cases.  Here's an article digging into Comey's testimony that argues Comey is the biggest loser.

The US Navy has commissioned a new combat ship the USS Gabrielle Giffords. Now Ms. Giffords is a nice lady, but all she really did was get shot by an insane person. Normally the Navy names ships after actual heroes, or politicians that made a real impact, or cities or states. Nobody outside Arizona had heard of her before the shooting. This seems like a case of political correctness run a muck. Strangely enough, there wasn't much commentary from the usual sources; am I the only person mean enough to question this decision?

We’re All Guinea Pigs in a Failed Decades-Long Diet Experiment

The government publishes dietary guidelines based on decades-old faulty research. Believers take it as inerrant and do foolish, expensive things.

For example, Michelle Obama changed the whole school lunch program with the intent of making kids healthier. As a result, vast quantities of food were thrown out because the kids wouldn't eat the food. The Trump administration is making a too-modest improvements, for example switching from non-fat milk to 1%. And of course doctors and nutritionists trained under the old rules are just as ignorant and inflexible. Read what the latest research says.

An employee for a defense contractor, with the unusual name of "Reality Winner" released a secret government document to the media.  A look at her Facebook page makes you ask the question"How did this person ever get a top secret security clearance?".And why could she just print out a document from the company network? What ever happened to "need to know"?

This photo won a Pulitzer Prize without including the rest of the story.

Want to mow lawns in Birmingham to raise money during summer vacation?  Better have a business license

This article, by a journalist, explains why the media are so out of touch. The reason is that they are out of contact with the people

For example, the NY Times just published the name of the new undercover CIA man in Iran. This was a crime when it was done to Valery Plame, who wasn't an actual spy or undercover

An Air Force Cadet created a better bullet-proof vest in chemistry lab. It also will work for tanks.

A really big problem that Apple has with the iPhone is that it has too many hidden features. Mine certainly does and it's a few generations old. Since the features are hidden, people don't use them. And, as Apple tries to improve the iPhone, their solution seems to be to add more hidden features. Why would anybody buy one?

"Serious environmentalists have had little use for the Paris accord. The emissions reduction promised by the 190 signatories is too little to prevent serious warming, all of them are free to adopt weaker plans, and the non-enforceability makes it unlikely any of them will redeem even those inadequate promises."  Much more information here on the problems with the accord.

Here's is the best description of the problems with the Paris Accord.

Harvard isn't what it used to be.  Here's a tenured history professor who doesn't know how the United States was founded. Seems to think there's some connection to the climate accord.

If you are in California, it is almost certain you have driven past Emerald Bay on Lake Tahoe. Back when growth was more important than beauty, some folks wanted to build a bridge across it. Read a little history here

The government is wrong about a lot of things, especially on nutrition. Turns out that fat is good for you and salt is harmless, but the nannies in charge use old ideas to control what adults and especially children eat.

Of course there are a lot more federal regulations. It's incredible how much they cost us

Evangelical Christians are well aware that denominations that play loose with the Scriptures are shrinking. Here's a story on another liberal denomination that is dying
