Howard Kurtz has a new book out about the war between Donald Trump and the press. Here's an excerpt by Howard in the Hollywood Reporter. Another article in Politico.
Lester Holt has been in North Korea this week reporting from a ski resort. The place is normally empty, but the NOKs brought in a bunch of people to pretend like the ski resort was normally in use. Holt is getting some backlash for getting fooled.
A Scanning Electron Microscope can be used to take pictures of viruses. Some of the images are scary in this slide show. Here's a little tutorial on viruses.
Here's a new study on global warming. Maybe it's not as bad as they wish.
Europe's scheme to elimate CO2 is doing the wrong things. Burning wood is worse than alternatives including coal.
Energy costs are spiking in New England. They have only themselves to blame.
The New York Times is pretty much anti-Trump. So, it's surprising when they say something just a little positive about him.
An entertaining article about mean girls and nasty women. Is the Feminists Movement collapsing?
Samantha Power has regrets. Do you think it's about the many mistakes she made working for the Obama Administration? No, something else entirely.
HBO is working on a documentary about Obama's final year. It may reveal much about naive policy.
The facts about Trump's first year get lost in the hysteria.
And, a couple of articles about problems at the FBI. The stench at Obamas FBI and DOJ and The FBI is looking guilty in the Russia probe.

Rich Californians and taxes
California's wealthiest 1 percent pay 48 percent of its income tax. Now that it's not deductable, will they move away?
Is there no end to the ignorance of California's politicians? Much is revealed in this article: they want to tax businesses by extracting half of the savings from Trump's tax cut, which will of course drive more businesses from the state. They still think that the Trump tax custs won't benefit the middle class. They think that people can donate their taxes to the state and get a tax savings (everybody knows that if you get a tangible benefit from a donation, it's not deductable) All three idocies are in this one article, and the media doesn't bother to explain it, revealing their cluelessness.
They are building a stretch of the Bullet Train from outside Fresno to outside Bakersfield (sort of a "train to nowhere"). You'll be surprised that the cost has escalated 35% over earlier projections. Just as the rest of the system will escalate.
Remember Common Core? Betsy DeVos casually announced that it is over.
One Peace Corps volunteer learned that Trump was right about Africa.
How about those tapeworms? A little concern about daily sushi.
Prosperity Gospel preacher Ken Copeland has enhanced his ability to reach the world for Christ (and for him). He's buying a Gulfstream V private jet. You can help him by sending money to lengthen the runway on his private airfield.
Tom Steyer made a fortune running a hedge fund. Probably you have seen his TV ads arguing for impeachment of Donald Trump. He has lots of money to promote his viewpoints, but it appears to me that being able to manage a hedge fund and being a little bit crazy are not mutually exclusive. Here's an analysis in the New York Times.
Do you watch Fox News? Here's a guy who advertises on Fox because he thinks those viewers have limited intellect and are easy to fool. He doesn't run his company anymore.

Trump's effects on the country
Trump is really doing a lot of things for the country, more than any other president since Reagan.
Even more stuff that Trump is doing right that the experts don't undrstand.
This writer in the New York Post says we're still better off with Trump than Clinton.
Is Trump really crazy? See what this author says.
Michael Wolff claims that Trump has dementia. Why hasn't this ever been seen in public? More here: reaction to the Wolff book proves Journalists incompetent.
The Oxford English Dictionary actually has a definition of "shithole". A wretched place. Here's an exposition with applications.
Nothing scandalizes a leftist like the truth. Point out that women and men are different, that black Americans commit a disproportionate amount of violent crime, that most terrorist acts are committed by Muslims, and the Left leaps to its collective feet in openmouthed shock. Let’s state the obvious. Some countries are shitholes.
More on how political correctness prevents students from getting an education.
Speaking of political correctness, you'll enjoy these quotes from General Mattis.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau appears to be protecting consumers by channeling all their fines to Democrat agencies. The new head of the organization is fixing that problem, another example of one of Trump's good deeds.
Here's a terrific anti-war song by Roy Orbison: There won't be many coming home.
On the subject of war, here's an analysis on the prospects of success in Afghanistan.
California's bag ban is great news for shoplifters. Now that they bring their own bags, they just fill them up and leave without paying.
Vanity Fair article on Weinstein's frantic attempts to keep his story out of the news.
This person thinks Ophrah will run in 2020 because all the other Democrat candidates are even worse.
A Christian politician in the UK admits he lied about believing gay sex was not a sin.
Here's an interesting article in Popular Mechanics about a stone that came from another universe.
Canada elected a liberal Premier. His carbon taxes are adding pain to their winter.
An interesting take by an athiest on whether Christ was a Socialist.
The Left is upset by Attorney General Session's threat to enforce the marijuana laws. Law professor Glenn Reynolds suggests that if you don't want the laws enforced, change the law.
As you would expect, Al Gore says that the bitter cold is the result of global warming. These are the same people who were saying a few years ago that snow would be a thing of the past.
No surpirse here. The FBI gave Hillary special treatment during the e-mail probe.

Is Trump really crazy?
Is Trump really crazy? Analysis from Victor Davis Hanson.
His public meeting with congress destroys the narrative that he's mentally unfit.
New Year's resolutions for the media. They certainly can use these. Further on the media: their failures to actually check the Wolff book for credibility.
You have heard just a little from the media about the protests in Iran. You can find more on the Internet of course, but here's a rare look at fundamental problems that may lead to a collapse of the country.
Everybody agrees earmarks are bad policy. Then why is congress trying to bring them back?
People who think Socialism is the answer to income equality generally don't understand economics. A perfect example is working its way in Venezuela. Maduro has just decreed a cut in supermarket prices and the people are buying food, but there won't be any food available when the current inventory is gone. Read the comments.
On the economy, Trump has been crazy like a fox. Here's a comparison to what Obama did.
Clarence Thomas is one of the great Supreme Court Justices. His opinions are highly regarded by scholarly readers, yet he is defamed by liberals. Here's an interview of him.
David Brooks is the token conservative on the New York Times, though he doesn't do it very well. He did write and interesting op-ed saying the "Anti-Trump movement io getting dumber."
Donald Trump invited the media to his bilateral meeting on immigration. Roger Simon thinks he was the adult in the room.

Trump vs Obama
Victor Davis Hanson on Trump vs. Obama. A remarkable experiment is being conducted. Eight years of progressiveness will be contrasted by four or maybe eight years of conservatism. Let's see how the country and the people fare.
One out of five federal workers makes over $100,000 per year. They have other benefits. The average wage for citizens is $44,000.
This article is really worth reading. There is so much graft in New York subway construction that costs are seven times the worldwide average. There were 200 employees that couldn't be found but were being paid $1000 per day. The New York Times does a great job when it covers things other than Donald Trump.
Is the record cold causing doubt about global warming? Don't worry, the climate scientists have it covered.
Here's a great article and fun reading: 2017 the year in review.
A selection of what some folks chose as the best drone shots of 2017.
Essential fun reading: Dave Barry's roundup of what happened in 2017.
Here's an interesting theory on why Al Franken was forced out of office. It was a Democrat strategy to control the narrative.
The 18 most important airliners of all time; all the way back to the 1913 Sikorsky. And for real aviation buffs, little vignettes you can link on.
Is Muellers grand jury unbiased? A witness says it looks like a "Black Lives Matter" rally.
