The top 50 Christmas songs

The Ringer website has selected the top 50 holiday Christmas songs.  It's easy to take exception to the choices and the sequence, but this page has links to play every one of them. There are songs I've never heard of.

The Babylon Bee Christian themed satirical web site had an entry about Americans being shocked to discover Trump was still president. You can read it here.  As is often the case, the Bee turns out to be the paper of record, because lots of folk think he isn't president anymore.

Victor Davis Hanson says that the Democrats have made hate their agenda.

If you liked that, here's an even better analysis of the collusion in the dark state.

Social justice on the taxpayer's dime. Seattle is going insane.

A striking picture of the Apollo 17 lunar lander, the last one, landed 47 years ago on December 19.

For you media haters, here's a list of the twelve ways the media screwed up in 2019.

I believe the Constitution has a rule against cruel and unusual punishment. An Iowa man was sentenced to 16 years for burning an LBGTQ flag.

Christianity Today shot itself in the foot in an editorial by a guy who is about to retire and won't suffer for his actions.

How about a story about some people flying over Mt St. Helens during the eruption.

The climate con

This writer thinks the climate crisis is an attempt to take over the economy using Marxist ideas.

Of course the FBI spied on the Trump campaign. More here on the Horowitz report from the AP.

Here's a article about how the Christchurch earthquake in New Zealand would devastate California.

If you haven't used up your free access to the New York Times, this oral history of technology is pretty interesting.  Click the icons to read the text.

Always informative and entertaining, a video of Victor Davis Hanson on the Democrat party debates.

The California law  that makes it illegal to suspend disruptive students goes in to effect next year. The problem seems to be that black students are more disruptive than white students.  Now, nobody gets to learn.

The legacy of impeachment

If the Democrats vote to impeach, it will create a legacy of low-bar impeachment.

Trumps action pale in comparison to former presidents.

This writer says that there should not be another climate conference.

The Democrats seem to be the lying party.

A pretty entertaining analysis of the Democrat's problem with impeachment.

Remember Kaepernik's workout for the football scouts?  It actually led to a job, just not for him.

Academic standards are deteriorating, at least the traditional critical thinking skills.

If you've been watching "The Mandalorian" Star Wars series on the Disney channel, you've no doubt become enamored with Baby Yoda, an obvious blatant merchandising ploy. Here's where to order your plush baby Yoda, but you'll have to wait until 2020. Disney obviously screwed up and missed the Christmas buying season a surprising bit of incompetence by the master of merchandising tie ins.

Kind of an interesting article about Buttigieg's time at McKinsey Consulting.

Walmart is selling fire logs that smell like Kentucky Fried Chicken when burned.

Why is the World Bank lending money to China? Trump wants it to stop.

The Left hates most things good

The Left hates the Salvation Army. That's all you need to know about them.

LA is building homes for the homeless using shipping containers. It is costing $600K per home, more than a condominium in the area.

This is a fascinating article on the Cholera outbreak in Haiti.  Fascination because of the UN's efforts to cover up the cause, revealed by an reporter.  I especially enjoyed the part where some scientist tried to blame global warming.

How about a puppy found frozen in permafrost for 18,000 years.

The fired Navy Secretary reveals in an op-ed his problem with the chain of command.

A collection of the year's best pictures from National Geographic.

For global warming fans, did you know there are 100 different climate models from 47 different organizations.  Some of them predict much more global warming than others; probably because there's more research funding the more warming you predict.  I am skeptical that there are so many different models if these people are so sure about global warming.

An investigation in Ohio uncovered hundreds of illegal voters. We should do that in California.

Climate Change

Why everything you hear about climate change is wrong.

Attorney General Barr gave a terrific speech about the damage to the nation by the resistance.  It got great reviews from reasonable analysts. The Left is of course over-reacting.

More on the whistleblower, Eric Ciaramella. It's like the Cheers bar, everybody knows his name.

When the villain is Obama and not Trump, suddenly the news isn't worth reporting.

If you have decent speed on the Internet, here are some very nice B&W photos of the hearings.

Sycophants who flatter child climate oracles deserve ridicule.

This ring galaxy is 600 million light years away. In the picture are more galaxies even much more distant. Kind of makes the universe seem really big.

Soldiers have been in the news lately. The most decorated soldier of the Vietnam war had almost as many article 15's and medals.

King Sobieski defeated the Muslims on the outskirts of Vienna, preventing them from taking over Europe in 1683. His statue is too controversial to be placed in Vienna.

A new Clint Eastwood movie is coming out. "Richard Jewell" paints the press as incompetent.

There are so many Muslim immigrants in Sweden that it's turning into a war zone. Of course the media doesn't even mention the demographics of the folk causing the problems.

Vaping isn't a good thing, but it's safer than smoking. The scary news you've seen lately has been the result of black market marijuana infused products, not commercial ones. Of course the media has failed to take recognition of that subtle detail. Trump was right to not ban vaping products.

The media is ignoring Hunter Biden's latest baby from an unwed mother, unlike the reaction to Bristol Palin's pregnancy. Joe Biden didn't appreciate getting a question from a reporter about it. Hunter has yet another kid from his late brother's widow.

The Whistleblower and the Lt Colonel

Eric Ciaramella is the whistleblower and LTC Alan Vindman is the guy who was so concerned about the phone call that he told Eric about it.  Here's the real mystery of those two. On the same subject, here's ten reasons the hearing is really a coup.

Clint Eastwood has a new movie out: Richard Jewell, about the guy who found a bomb in Atlanta during the Olympics. The FBI decided he was the bomber and leaked the information to the press. He was innocent of course. The movie is based on this article in Vanity Fair.

Remember Harry Potter's invisibility cloak? Somebody made one.

It seems like a daily occurrence that California Governor Gavin Newsom does something stupid, though it may be more often than daily. Here's an example: California owns over 50,000 cars; Newsome has decreed that the state can only buy electric cars.

Jessica Meir is on the space station. She has a twitter page which is kind of interesting. The space station looks kind of junky in some photos.

Three Indiana judges were suspended after a brawl that left two of them wounded.

People in Zimbabwe are complaining that those Chinese manufactured condoms are too small.

These people had half their brains removed and they are still getting along fine. Of course they vote Democrat.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg claims to be a Christian, so we should vote for him even though he's gay. A close look at his theology makes one suspect.

How the Japanese bombed Michigan in WW2.

Why Trump held up the money to the Ukraine.

Much has been made about Trump firing some ambassadors. Obama fired every ambassador that had been appointed by Bush.

We have talked before about the SPLC. They have declared Franklin Graham as a leader of a hate group.

The Democrats and the media have been trying to spin the connection between old Biden and young Biden as much ado about nothing. Old Biden has a record of asking the government to do what young Biden's firm wanted.

Here's a guy who moved from LA to a small town in Idaho. He experienced culture shock.

Tony Abbott, former Prime Minister of Australia, delivered the annual Global Warming Policy Forum lecture in London on October 9. The title of his lecture was “Daring to Doubt.” He began with some general observations on our peculiar age.

A fascinating article on the K-T boundary

This article tells the story of how different scientific disciplines led to the understanding of the extinction of the dinosaurs.

This art critic says it's time for the Louvre to take down the Mona Lisa

Stilton Jarlsburg's commentary on guns in Mexico. If you link to his home page, you can see more from him.

A very nice picture of a Saturn rocket.

A project by Oregon State has rounded up signatures from 11,000 scientists warning us about the dangers of global warming.  One writer looked at the list, which includes all kinds of scientists, and found only 240 (2%) individuals with professions that can be construed as bona fide meteorologists, climatologists, or atmospheric scientists. Since there are 10,000 such scientists in the US, that seems like a minority. The list is currently unavailable while they purge it of names like Micky Mouse and Albus Dumbledore from Hogwarts. If you have the time, watch this analysis.

Here's more on the whistle blower who sparked the latest impeachment inquiry. He's a Democrat operative.

And you thought the Chevrotain was extinct. Scientists managed to get a photo on one in the wilds of Viet Nam.

Here's a cool photo of Mercury flying by in front of the Sun. If you want to see a closeup, go here.

An interesting article about the laws against eating on the subway platform.

Some cities are banning natural gas. I sure enjoyed having it while the electricity was off.

Universites are really going down hill.  Stanford students were triggered by having a conservative speaker. And The Daily Northwestern apologized for covering a Jeff Sessions event.

Three Marxists decided to share an apartment in the spirit of Marxism. They found out it doesn't work.

An honest leftist admits the truth about all those benefits. Higher taxes on the poor and middle class.

A compelling article about the 737 Max and the way pilots fly these days, by William Languische, son of the writer of the famous flying book "Stick and Rudder". The problem is that pilots don't really fly much, the computers do it and when something goes wrong the pilots don't know what to do.

A thorough article about the truth about the homeless in San Francisco. Hint: it's not the cost of housing. California's Proposition 47 has created a whole new problem with theft.

The Army is developing a new type of helmet--lighter and more protection.

The Babylon Bee is becoming the paper of record instead of a satire.  Consider this article on Baghdadi. There's a really funny aspect to this satire: the very last suggested headline was the one actually used by the Washington Post until the outcry forced them to change it.

The real reason the legacy media is freaking out over the Baghdadi mission.

The coming vindication of Donald Trump may lead to a restoration of the Consitution.

You will recall that in the movie Jurassic Park, they took blood from a mosquito trapped in amber to clone dinosaurs. Here's a collection of creatures trapped in amber.

More from the Bee: Texas is luring jobs from California with promises of electricity.

The UK has halted fracking. Boris Johnson’s government, which is preparing for a general election, said the ban would be in place until there was “compelling new evidence” that it could be carried out safely. There is plenty of evidence that fracking can be carried out safely, though there are many misguided activists who disagree. Elizabeth Warren plans to ban Fracking when she is elected president, surely attractive to her base of supporters. The US has become an exporter of petroleum since fracking took off; 90% of our oil comes from fracking and natural gas has become so cheap that companies have stopped drilling for it.

Natasha Lipman "My husband squeezed my hand to say he wanted to live, then I found a way to save him". A great first person article about phages.

As you may recall, the 6-mile wide Chicxulub asteroid collision wiped out the dinosaurs and most of the rest of the land creatures on earth about 66 million years ago. But what about the fishes? Shouldn't they be fine down in the cool ocean? Well, it turns out the asteroid also created an acid rain that wiped out most of the marine life at the same time. The article is worth linking to just to see the illustration in the NY Times of the crater.

Abandoning the Kurds

Another take on the issue of abandoning the Kurds.

The Rolling Stone magazine, no admirer of Donald Trump, doesn't believe the whistleblower is real because of the reaction of the CIA.

California has rolled out an earthquake warning system with an ap that you can download to your smart phone. Unfortunately, earthquake waves move pretty fast, as much as a mile a second.  That means you will get lots of warning if the epicenter is a long ways away, and not much if it is close. So, if the earthquake is close enough to kill you, you don't get much warning. Download the program MyShake on your smart phone. Of course earthquakes don't kill people, improperly designed falling structures kill people.

Back in my youth, I worked on a survey crew measuring slip and creep on faults in California. One of these was the Garlock Fault, east of the San Andreas. It never went anywhere; all of a sudden it's moving.  This section of the San Andreas was the location  of the largest historical earthquake in California, the 1857 Fort Tejon Earthquake.

Trump and Drudge

CNN thinks that Trump has lost Matt Drudge. Trump is losing me too.  The Ukraine thing was just stupid; Trump could have just tweeted the news about Hunter Biden's crooked deal. It's obvious that anyone with half a brain could figure it out without asking the Ukrainians to investigate, but abandoning the Kurds to the Turks seems to be unconscionable, at least as portrayed by the media.

Whistleblower roundup

Want to know who the whistleblower is? Sue Gordon was deputy director of national intelligence and wanted the director job. Trump appointed somebody else, and Gordon resigned in a snit. A few days later, the whistleblower complaint was filed. Who else could have heard the story from multiple leakers.
Even stranger, in August the rules were changed from "complaints had to be first hand knowledge" to "hearsay was OK".

Ukraine round up

Ukraine has been in the news lately in relation to pressuring them to interfere with the coming election. Here's a roundup of some reports:

Apparently, it started with the Obama administration interfering in the 2016 election.

Back in 2016, there was a Ukrainian prosecutor investigating a company that funneled money to a firm run by Joe Biden's son.  Joe pressured the Ukrainians to fire the prosecutor by withholding one billion dollars in foreign aid in order to protect his son. Trump has been in the news lately for pushing the Ukrainians to reopen the investigation to get this story in the news. Joe denies it of course, but here's an article with a video of Joe bragging about getting the prosecutor fired.

The deep state's whistleblower complaint is all about deflecting from Biden's Ukraine scandal.

And of course the media is ignoring the details of Biden's problem to go after Trump.

The economic fact of free government health care is that taxes have to be raised on everybody to pay for it. These taxes will replace all the private insurance paid by people and their employers, so the net cost to the public will decrease as government will ration health care and doctors wont be as rich. One more example of good things done by Trump: his labor board is overturning many of the rules make by Obama's labor board.

9/11 revisited on the 18th anniversary

An excerpt from the oral history of flight 93: "we may have to shoot this plane down".

The hostages on 93 understood they were aboard a flying bomb intended to kill thousands of their fellow citizens. They knew there would be no happy ending. So they gave us the next best thing, a hopeful ending. A triumph of American values.

And from The Onion satire site: the hijackers surprised to find them selves in hell.

On a personal note, as a fan of country music, Sunday night is the debut of Ken Burn’s “Country Music“ on PBS. Set your DVR to record the whole series. You can watch previews here https://vids.kvie.org/video/trailer-country-music-ken-burns/  The early episodes on the roots of country music are historical trasures.

By and large, Americans can't agree on anything. But, 95% do agree on one thing: the media sucks.
