Here's how to know the media is lying

Here's how to know the media is lying (I know, that's like about how to know politicians are lying--their lips are moving). In the case of the media, they're publishing or newscasting. Here's the indicators the truth is being distorted.

Victor Davis Hanson on how presidents historically talked tough and accomplished things, or talked diplomatically and lost the benefit.

The D. James Kennedy Ministries is sueing the Southern Poverty Law Center. The SPLC has designated DJKM as a hate group because they are opposed to gay marriage, beliefs consistent with Biblical teaching.

If you think that the tearing down statues of Confederate figures is a little on the wacky side, how about a Catholic School removing statues of the Virgin Mary and Jesus?

A lot of people, Christians and non-believers alike, don't know this: God Wants You to Take (and Give) Pleasure In Sex

Architecture from Burning Man: bizarre creativity unleashed.  People images here.

This writer doesn't think very much of Chelsea Clinton, though he suggests it possible she may be president someday. Problems with Hillary's protection detail have been well documented.

The violent left-wing protest group Antifa (for anti-fascist) is causing problems for the left-wing anti-violence contingent.

Turning Point USA: the organization’s mission is to identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of fiscal responsibility, free markets, and limited government. It seems that some prefessors don't agree with that objective.  Learn more about TPUSA  here.

Americans don't trust the media

Americans don't trust the media. Now that people can find their facts on the Internet, they have learned that opinion is leaking into the news.

Science fiction writer Robert Heinlein wrote about a future time of irrational behavior and beliefs called the "crazy years". That future time is now and we are living in the crazy years.

Regaardless of whether you drink, this article on adding a splash of water to whiskey is intersting. It's in the guaiacol.

How to survive a bear attack; depends on the type of bear.

College costs a lot. The reason costs have skyrocketed is that the number of administrators has ballooned. This article is about the UK, but applies equally to the US.

How to manufacture outrage where nobody cared, or was even aware, before.

What to do if you discover your spouse is a Trump supporter. Why did you marry that person in the first place?

Ghandi is revered by liberals everywhere for his peaceful overthrow of the English rule of India. In Ghana, they are removing his statues because he was a racist.

Protecting our rights to free speech

The police need to act fast to protect our rights to free speech. They didn't do their job in Charlottesville, or Berkeley, or other places.

The founder of the Weather Channel is an oponent of the global warming hysteria and spending. Lots of good links in the article.

Ken Ham built a life-sized Ark in Kentucky and filled it with exhibits reflecting the Genesis story. Now, he's lighting it up nightly in rainbow colors in recognition of the rainbow seen by Noah at the end of the flood. There is some debate over homosexuals who also use the rainbow.

Want to chauffer a congressman? The requirements are more than just driving.

Scott Adams on how to recognize when you're in a mass hysteria bubble. If you follow his logic, you might conclude that the criticism of Donald Trump qualifies.

This columnist says something I have been arguing for months: the media should report on what Trump is doing instead of what he tweets. There have been many substantial changes to the regulatory environment that are great for the country. Glenn Reynolds said something similar back in January.

A statue of Joan of Arc was vandalized in New Orleans with "take it down". Which side did Joan of Arc fight with in the Civil War?

Go to church; it's good for you and good for the country also.

The Associated Press notices that the Democrats may be making a mistake with the monuments.

The NY Times set out to write an article about how racist Donald Trump is.  It didn't come out as they expected and hoped, says Althouse.  Here's the actual article in the Times. with its strange headline.

Believing the news

"The Nation" is a liberal magazine that goes to great lengths to criticize and conservative initiative and Trump in particular. Thus, it's shocking that they are reporting that the hacking of the Democrat e-mails wasn't done by the Russians but was an inside job. Read the whole thing, this is a big deal.  Also, review the previous story on John Brennan.

This person learned in the Soviet Union not to believe most things he read in the newspaper. Sadly, we have reached the point in America where you can't believe the news either.

The Boston Globe published an article about the problems of the children of Catholic priests. They get little support or recognition from the church.

Advice for leftists: there are no Nazis under your bed.

If this story is accurate, it's a really big deal. CIA Director John Brennan cooked up the whole Russian hacking story.

Sherlock Holmes Investigates Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Her Rogue Computer Technicians. An investigative report.

The Democrats hope to pick up some seats in congress based on the unpopularity of Donald Trump and the Republican's failure to get things done. Their optimisim may be mis-placed.

Bugs are on the menu in a Swiss supermarket. Switzerland has approved insect-based food for human consumption.

Google has been in the news lately because an employee wrote a 10-page memo criticizing diversity efforts. There was a great hubbub in the media, and the employee was fired. This author in The Atlantic suggests that the critics didn't read the article.  Glenn Reynolds says that the president of Google should be the one fired.

When NBC covers protest marches, they tend to omit the source of the violence.

A leading climate scientist lectures on why global warming alarmists are wrong.

For you older folks, San Francisco is celebrating the 50th anniversary of "the summer of love" when the hippies invaded Haight-Ashbury with wide ranging exhibitions and events.

Roundup of Google news

Some insightful articles on the debacle at Google: The mistakes of walking away from the difference between men and women, and the damage done by Google to their employees.

And here's an insightful article from a woman who decided she doesn't belong in the tech world.

Tom Freidman, Nobel Prize winning economist who doesn't understand economics, and NY Times columnist is generally wrong about everything. A surprising thing happened! He was right four times in one day:
We can’t take in every immigrant who wants to come here; we need, metaphorically speaking, a high wall that assures Americans we can control our border with a big gate that lets as many people in legally as we can effectively absorb as citizens.
The Muslim world does have a problem with pluralism – gender pluralism, religious pluralism and intellectual pluralism – and suggesting that terrorism has nothing to do with that fact is naïve; countering violent extremism means constructively engaging with Muslim leaders on this issue.
Americans want a president focused on growing the economic pie, not just redistributing it. We do have a trade problem with China, which has reformed and closed instead of reformed and opened. We have an even bigger problem with automation wiping out middle-skilled work and we need to generate more blue-collar jobs to anchor communities.
Political correctness on college campuses has run ridiculously riot. Americans want leaders to be comfortable expressing patriotism and love of country when globalization is erasing national identities. America is not perfect, but it is, more often than not, a force for good in the world.
Of course true to form, the article is critical of Trump.

A Virginia high school sent a letter to parents and students announcing they would be selecting students for Advanced Placement and honors classes at least partly based on skin color. The school board denies what is plainly in the letter.

Remember the Women's March? The behavior of the group is losing support, even by the NY Times.

There's an old joke about the pronunciation of almonds--that on the tree it is pronounced "almonds" and after they are harested, it's pronounced "a'monds". When they are harvested, a machine shakes the "L" out of them.  Here's a fun video of an almond harvester. There's a follow up about how you pronounce salmon with the "L" silent.

An optical illusion

An optical illusion. Not one I've seen before but perplexing. Difficult to figure out.

Biblical scholar identifies 53 biblical characters from the old testament that left records behind.

The media, especially the Washington Post and NY Times, daily report something bad about Donald Trump. Well Trump has done lots of good things, especially for those of us who tend conservative. These don't get in the news. So, it's surprising that a couple actually slipped through.

When Joshua was fighting for the promised land, God stopped the sun. It probably was an eclipse. The correct translation was that the sun went dark.

Things look bad for the Democrats in the next election. Geography is against them.

Kind of an entertaining article on Debbie Wasserman Schultz for those of us forced to watch her on the Sunday Morning talk shows. It seems that her colleagues are annoyed at her for damaging the brand.

Here's a fun list of mistakes by the New York Times; most were new to me, a news junkie.

Identity liberals are the bane of conservatives and rational thought.  Here's why they can't fish. A pretty insightful article about the contradictions in liberal thought and the Google case.

General Kelly shakes up the White House

Kelly’s Rules for Trump’s West Wing: Stop Bickering, Get in Early, Make an Appointment. New Chief of Staff John Kelly moves quickly to bring order and discipline to a West Wing riven by conflict.

There is a giant oil field offshore Norway called Johan Sverdup. Statiol is buiilding an amazing group of drilling platforms. Last week the jacket for the oil & gas riser platform was installed by Thialf crane vessel. The jacket reaches 140 metres from the seabed.  Watch this video of the support structure deployment.  Considering that the jacket is wider than a football field and weighs 26,000 tons, the ship with the cranes is pretty impressive as well.  To appreciate how much money is being spent on this project, take a look at this video animating the whole installation. The quality of the video is as good as anything out of Pixar.

California State Universities have required entering students to take remedial courses in math and English if they fail tests on the subjects. In other words, 39% of the students are not ready for college. These remedial courses do not generate credit towards graduation, and the academics think this discourages the students. Many don't even complete the remedial courses. The proposed solution: elimiate the remedial courses.

Here's a plannng guide tor viewing the upcoming solar eclipse.

What is it about a thoroughly discredited doctrine like Communism that just won’t die?  The New York Times is publishing a series of articles about the glories of totalitarianism. Further on the same subject, a new book out "Communism for Kids".

Another liberal denominaation is losing members. It would help them to treat the Bible with more respect.

Obama paved the way for the Trump administration to crack down on leaks. This from a NY Times reporter.

This author argues that we should boycott Chic-fil-A. I thought the recipients of the Chic-fil-A foundation seemed like good choices. The comments are kind of fun.

The NY Times reviewed Al Gore's new documentary on global warming climate change. Not surprising, they liked it.  I haven't seen the movie, but in the review Gore seems to confuse climate change with weather. On the other hand, this reviewer didn't much like the movie's focus on Al Gore. Update: "An Inconvenient Sequel" bombs at the box office (with some good links).

Former “Alarmist” Scientist Says Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) Based In False Science, but there's too much money to change course. Australia's Bureau of Meteorology doesn't adjust the readings to show global warming manually like the rest of the world, they programed the instruments to do it automatically.

Do you trust the media? Here's a survey of peoples level of trust for different sources.  Some of the results are if not surprising, at least different than my opinions. For example, NPR is way up on the trust scale, though if you listen to it, they definitely have a liberal bias; not so much errors, but omiting relative perspective. Rush Limbaugh is faily for down on trust, but I believe that most people who don't trust him don't listen to him either, instead basing their opinion on what liberal sources tell them about his program.

Bible studies in the White House?

Bible studies in the White House?
Some of the most powerful people in America have been gathering weekly to learn more about God's Word, and this Trump Cabinet Bible study is making history. They've been called the most evangelical Cabinet in history – men and women who don't mince words when it comes to where they stand on God and the Bible.
If you can't trust the weather bureau, who can you trust? Australia Weather Bureau Caught Tampering With Climate Numbers.

Followers of this blog know that asians have to score significantly higher than whites on the SAT to get into a prestigious university, while blacks can get in with a score 300 points lower than whites. The Department of Justice is apparently considering suing to stop racial discrimination, generally described as affirmative action. Here's more from the NYT, looks like we're headed for the Supreme Court.

The University of North Carolina, with a winning athletic program, was winning by giving its atheletes fake classes. Everybody gets an A or B without having to show up for class.

Ready for single payer?  It works pretty well here in the case of Medicare, not as well for the VA. The problem comes when there's not enough money to pay for it. In the UK, surgery we take for granted will be eliminated for the obese and smokers.

Senator Elizabeth Warren, not a student of economics, but a big proponent of equal pay for equal work, is paying her female staffers 71% of what she pays the guys.

Camille Paglia is my favorite Lesbian intellectual, with ideas contrary to coventional feminism. Here's a transcript of a recent interview.

What if Your Last Words to Your Spouse Were Spoken in Anger? Advice from Scripture.

The Democrat party is having a civil war over abortion. Hopefully, this will hurt their chances in coming elections.

Olavsfestdagene – Olav's Days – is a festival held annually in Trondheim, Norway, and named for the eleventh-century Norwegian king Olav II, also known as St. Olav. It was celebrated this year with a Muslim Imam who seemed clueless about the Koran,

Since the Walker Revolution of 2010, a number of reforms have made Wisconsin a far more attractive state in which to do business than was the case previously. How did Scott Walker lure the giant Foxcon manufacturing plant, the only LCD facility outside Asia.

How does Trump derangement syndrome dumb down the media? Examples from Roger Simon.

One of Trump's orders that conservatives applauded was approval of the Keystone Pipeline, held up for several years by politics. Now, because Canadian oil is more expensive to produce and refine, it may be cancelled by economics in these times of cheap oil.
