Ukraine round up

Ukraine has been in the news lately in relation to pressuring them to interfere with the coming election. Here's a roundup of some reports:

Apparently, it started with the Obama administration interfering in the 2016 election.

Back in 2016, there was a Ukrainian prosecutor investigating a company that funneled money to a firm run by Joe Biden's son.  Joe pressured the Ukrainians to fire the prosecutor by withholding one billion dollars in foreign aid in order to protect his son. Trump has been in the news lately for pushing the Ukrainians to reopen the investigation to get this story in the news. Joe denies it of course, but here's an article with a video of Joe bragging about getting the prosecutor fired.

The deep state's whistleblower complaint is all about deflecting from Biden's Ukraine scandal.

And of course the media is ignoring the details of Biden's problem to go after Trump.

The former carrier of the nuclear football says the leaker broke the circle of trust.

There is a widely told story of an Inuit who made a knife out of his feces and used it to skin a dog. A group of scientists tried to replicate the experiment.

A California winery declined to host a same-sex wedding, then recanted.

The economic fact of free government health care is that taxes have to be raised on everybody to pay for it. These taxes will replace all the private insurance paid by people and their employers, so the net cost to the public will decrease as government will ration health care and doctors wont be as rich. You have to give credit to Elizabeth Warren for dodging the question as Biden attacks her.

A friend of mine, Brian Herridge, found a Curtiss SB2C Helldiver while doing a survey for unexploded ordnance off Martha's Vineyard. You can read about the plane in the Vineyard Gazette.

Progressive Christian Pete Buttigieg doesn't seem to understand his own faith. On the other hand, his brother seems to have a better grasp and tells Pete to stop using the Bible to justify abortions.

Amanda Green of the Victory Girls blog is scared of the Democrat candidates.

Elizabeth Warren says that when she is president, she will end fracking in the US. Right now, fracking is producing about 90% of the oil and gas in America. It would be a mistake.

With all the talk about parents bribing their kids into college, not much has been said about the universities own methods of taking money to provide admission to kids with wealthy parents. I thought this was a little hypocritical and as usual the media don't provide any perspective in their focus on celebrities.

One more example of good things done by Trump: his labor board is overturning many of the rules make by Obama's labor board.

It's a sad thing that you can't get a decent bagel outside of New York (or Florida, where you find transplanted New York Jews). What is claimed to be bagels elsewhere is bread in the shape of a donut, though Saratoga Bagels in Saratoga CA comes close. Why can't people allegedly in the bagel business make one? They don't even boil them.

No surprise here, camera sales are crashing because everybody is taking pictures with their cell phone.

Les Miserables has been performed all over the world.  There was an anniversary concert, and at the end, they gathered 17 Jean Valneans from different countries who performed vignettes in their native language.

9/11 revisited on the 18th anniversary

An excerpt from the oral history of flight 93: "we may have to shoot this plane down".

The hostages on 93 understood they were aboard a flying bomb intended to kill thousands of their fellow citizens. They knew there would be no happy ending. So they gave us the next best thing, a hopeful ending. A triumph of American values.

And from The Onion satire site: the hijackers surprised to find them selves in hell.

On a personal note, as a fan of country music, Sunday night is the debut of Ken Burn’s “Country Music“ on PBS. Set your DVR to record the whole series. You can watch previews here https://vids.kvie.org/video/trailer-country-music-ken-burns/  The early episodes on the roots of country music are historical trasures.

By and large, Americans can't agree on anything. But, 95% do agree on one thing: the media sucks.

CNN had a story this week about the CIA pulling a spy out of Russia. The errors were so egregious that the CIA came out to debunk it.

The Democrat governor of Virginia defended late term abortions where the infants were born alive and then left to die. The supportive media changed his quote, but he was correct about the process.

The Democrats are mis-stating history again: murder is what you say it is.

The Army selected the SigSauer for the next generation of squad weapons.

The liberal media thinks that it’s easier to buy a gun than cold medicine. One of them tested that idea and found that it's not the case.

An electric truck that never needs charging.

Perpetual motion. A truck charges its battery hauling rocks down a hill, collecting enough energy to drive back up the hill. No diesel, no charging station required.

Bloomberg Business Week published a special issue on the periodic table, with an article on each element, starting with hydrogen and working up to the manufactured elements that don't occur nature.  Since there are so many of them, it's a long read but fascinating.

Probably you're not brushing your teeth properly. Surprise hint: interdental brushes are superior to flossing.

Many of the weather stations that were originally out in the open are now close to cultural heat sources. The newly built U.S. Climate Reference Network (USCRN) consisting of properly located stations indicates no warming since it was installed 14 years ago.

Here's a reasonable solution to global warming: put your money into nuclear power instead of tilting at windmills.

There were disagreements between Nicola Tesla and Thomas Edison on how to power the nation. Tesla won by powering a mine in Telluride with AC.

A compelling account of the eruption of Mount Tambora that gave rise to the year without a summer in Europe.

Joe Biden is famous for his gaffes. Here's a list of 35 gaffs by Obama to make him feel better about himself.  Here's how Jim Geraghty analyzes Biden's gaffes and what it might mean for his candidacy when he comes up against Donald Trump.

The WSJ has a paywall, but you can read the gist of this article before you hit it. The UN Climate Panel is lying about crop failures.

Beto O'Rourke thinks abortions are OK up to 24 hours before the normal birth. That seems a bit extreme.

In praise of Melania Trump, the first lady treated terribly by the media.

This is an ad, but I was rather struck by this made in America personal tractor.
