Roger Simon compares the Emmy's non-stop Trump bashing with his UN speech.
My wife and I watched it live. It was a great speech. You can probably find it on YouTube, but here's the full text.
Matt Damon campaigns for public schools and opposed school choice. But of course he sends his kids to a private school because he can't find a good public school for them.
The Iranian nuclear deal is in the news. Former UN Ambassador, and one of my heroes, John Bolton says 'There Is Simply No Argument About Continuing This Iran Deal, Period'
There seems to be no limit on the disingenuousness of code enforcement officials. For example, people were being ticketed for code violations hours after hurricane Irma.
This thoughtful article by two law professors has stimulated much comment from the social justice warriors. They actually make the claim that not all cultures are equal and that traditional middle-class values are likely to bring success in life. Here's an example of the commentary.
The Politician Behind California's High Speed Rail Now Says It's 'Almost a Crime'. Quentin Kopp is now trying to kill the train to nowhere.
Here's a striking photo in the cockpit of a C-130 fighting fires in California.
The Mexico earthquake has reminded us that California is due for the "big one", and I'm not talking about the 1989 Los Gatos Earthquake, I'm talking about the real "big one". Those of us in the Gold Country are relatively safe from earthquakes, but when the big one hits, the supply infrastructure will shut down and the grocery stores only have three days worth of food on hand which will quickly be consumed by hoarders. Besides having 50 pounds of beans and rice on hand, here's a fun list from Amazon of things to select from. Send this to your friends in the Bay Area.
The Smithsonian built a museum to honor African Americans, but there was one glaring omission. Finally, they added Clarence Thomas to the exhibits.
Courtesy of the NFL, police violence against blacks has gotten more coverage lately. What these folk don't realize is that the media and black social justice warriors are oblivious to the actual statistics involved in the issue. Here's a thorough article they will never read. Further on the same subject, Roger Simon argues that without racism, the Democrat Party would disappear.

How to create a living cell from raw materials
The path from raw materials to a living cell is kind of a challenge for scientists to explain. Here are some of the issues that much be overcome if you refuse to believe in outside intervention.
Churches are typically the first to reach out and provide in natural disasters, but are prohibited by law from receiving it. I am conflicted on this issue, since providing aid seems to be contradicted by the first amendment, but on the other hand, it just seems right.
Shocking news: BYU has reversed a ban on caffeinated beverages. Now you can have a coke.
Costi Hinn, Benny Hinn's nephew, is questioning the whole basis of prosperity gospel. He found out that the Bible preaches a different evangelism.
Obama was, to my thinking, a really despicable politician who would go to great lengths to benefit his liberal causes. There are many examples, but today's is how he took money from the mortgage crisis and directed it to progressive political organizations.
Here's a column that was published in 1984. Nothing has changed except the names of the guilty.
Pittsburgh Steelers players stayed in the locker room during the National Anthem, except for one guy, Alejandro Villanueva, who came out and stood with is hand on his heart. He quickly became the best-selling player on the NFL merchandise site, unprecedented for a lineman.

When to trust the experts on climate change
Scott Adams provides us with an insightful article on when to trust the experts. He documents his arguments with examples that the experts got wrong and extends that analysis to climate science.
Why would any conservative watch late-night TV? Would it kill them to tell some jokes for the other side? Reportedly, the Emmy Awards were a non-stop bashing of Donald Trump. These people appear to be totally clueless about their business model. Half of the viewing public voted for Donald Trump, and why would half the country watch their TV shows or pay large sums to go to the movies?
Stanislav Petrov passed away in May at the age of 77. You have probably never heard of him, but he saved the world from nuclear disaster in 1983.
Officials in East Lansing, Michigan, banned a family farm from the city’s farmer’s market this spring because the owner doesn’t allow same-sex weddings on his property. A judge overturned the rule, which was enacted just for this farm.
If speech is violence, then violence becomes a justifiable response to speech. Just ask college students. A fifth of undergrads now say it’s acceptable to use physical force to silence a speaker who makes “offensive and hurtful statements.” One would think that college students would be familiar with the First Amendment. But then they don't teach real subjects in liberal arts anymore.
Everything is racist these days, even cotton.
Everyone on earth owes a great debt to Jesus Christ because those influenced by his teachings were directly responsible for virtually everything that makes our lives the most enjoyable and productive in human history. Despite this the West’s Christian heritage is being erased from our consciousness by our political, educational, and media elites.

Hillary's book
Hillary's new book, "What Happened" is out. Piers Morgan doesn't think much of it. His review is colorful and spirited.
It's no surprise to people who care about our nation and its culture, but the NFL is having a problem with empty stadiums. Could Kapernick be to blame or is it the way the owners treat the fans by moving around for a few extra luxury boxes. Is anyone going to drive up from San Diego to see the LA Chargers? Even the mayor of Los Angeles thinks the Chargers should have stayed in San Diego.
Erasing memories. Will Californians erase the memory of Father Junipero Serra but not Leland Stanford? Who of the present gets to decide whom of the past we must erase — and where does the cleansing of memory stop? Defacing Mt. Rushmore of its slave owners?
ESPN Is drowning and they're not smart enough to recognize it. Their leftward tilt is alienating their core audience, which is guys and girls who just want to pop a beer and watch a football game.
Democrats have attacked the president every which way, but polling and focus groups show none of it's working. Teflon Don is confounding the Democrats.
While Hillary was using her book tour to spread the blame, the CIA was using social media to honor the heros killed at Benghazi.
On the same subject, security contractors are speaking out about how State Department negligence allowed these deaths to happen.
Athiests in Britian and Canada are losing faith in evolution. They are still not strong believers in God.
A guy with a concealed carry permit had his truck seized over five bullets in his glove box. This is another egregious example of misuse of "civil forfiture". What is unusual is that the story is in the reliably liberal Washington Post.
Scandinavian countries are rewarding returning ISIS terrorists with free housing and other stuff. This is crazy of course, and citizens are upset about them going to the front of the line.
Global warming enthusiasts are blaming Harvey and Irma on climate change. Bill Nye, the fake science guy, got corrected by some real meteorologists.
How conservative college students are navigating the liberal atmisphere in their classrooms.
I was intrigued when this black liberal editorial writer said we wants to keep Trump as President. The gist of her argument is that Pence is just a horrible alternative. Personally, I thought her complaints about Pence were compelling arguments in his favor.

Undocumented citizens?
George Orwell please phone home. The AP is now calling illegal aliens "undocumented citizens".
Are you a conservative? Does your church believe that practicing homosexuality is wrong? You might be a member of a "hate group". The Southern Poverty Law Center has published a list of hate groups, which includes an actual hate group, the Ku Klux Klan. The list also includes a great number of conservative organizations. The SPLC is of course a radical liberal organization, but many folks have used this list as if it were substantive.
Supreme Court justice Gorsuch got all the attention in the 2016 election as a reason to not vote for Hillary, but just as important are the conservative judges being nominated for lower coursts by Trump.
More on due process for students accused of sexual misconduct.
Really large amounts of ISIS intelligence has been collected from the battlefield--so much that it's difficult to analyze.
What's it like to approach Saturn in a spaceship? Here's a striking video from Cassini doing just that.
Here's more on votor fraud in New Hampshire. There were major effects from out-of-state Democrats stealing the results.
Climate change enthusists are blaming Harvey and Irma on global warming. There seems to be no basis for that claim, bu they want to put deniers in jail.
Environmentalists hate fracking, the business of facturing rock to extract oil and gas from shale rock. Virtually all the claims of damage to ground water are false, and usually based on areas where gas has been leaking up through the ground long before drilling started. Here's an article on the history of fracking and how it works.

Unconstitutional gun confiscation
The National Guard in the US Virgin Islands was authorized to confiscate peoples guns ahead of hurricane Irma. Surely this is unconstitutional, but similar state laws haven't been tested in the courts yet. Good thing Hillary didn't become president.
The Obama administration misinterpreted Title IX to direct schools to create lawless rules on sexual assault, expelling students without reasonable judgements. Betsy DeVos plans to change the "era of rule by letter".
Democrats alledge that there is no significant election fraud. In 2016, 6000 people used same-day registration to vote in New Hampshire, many with out-of-state drivers licenses. The over-whelming majority of these votors can no longer be found in New Hampshire. This was a close election won by Democrats with way fewer votes than the ghost numbers.
More on the constitution: the Supreme Court agrees to hear a case on artists (photographers and bakeries) being forced to provide for gay weddings. In a switch from the past, the Trump DOJ comes out on the side of the artists.

Rotten Tomatoes ruined the film studios summer
I usually refer to Rotten Tomatoes when choosing a movie to attend or a DVD to buy or rent. But, studio executives are blaming the web site for bad box office viewership of bad movies.
This site is about the homes of the rich and famous in the path of hurricane Irma, but I thought just the map was interesting. It seems that private islands are popular with rich people.
The Democrat party is really going off the rails. If a Democrat actually says something reasonable, they are widely criticized by the Left. Even Dianne Feinstein may get a primary challenger.
Don't mess with Taco Bell. Robbers meet up with three employees packing guns.

The Goodyear Blimp has a ghostly past
The Goodyear blimp has a ghostly pass. What happened to the crew?
I love it when the nanny state's nutrition guidlines turn out to be totally wrong despite all the years of depriving ourselves of good food. Has salt gotten an unfair shake?
Amazon is buying Whole Foods. Know what that means? Lower prices. Lowering Whole Foods prices will hurt those who think they're better than you.
Search the world, you won't find better men than ours, strong, competent, and kind. The picture tells the story.
So, the Left embraces diversity, as long as it isn't Christianity. There are powerful peer and cultural pressures that are pushing Christians to compromise on core principles.
There's a book out debunking Al Gore's latest book on global warming. This book is outselling Al's.
Remember the "bald-eagle cam" which allowed us to daily watch a pair of eagle eggs hatch and grow to maturity? Well, they have long since flown the coop, but a time lapse video has been posted on the site to recap.
The Washington Post says any Democrat who wants to be taken seriously must support a single-payer health-care system, a $15 minimum wage, free college tuition, affirmative support for sanctuary cities along with minimal immigration controls and, finally, a contender must completely embrace Black Lives Matter and engage in a probing courtship with the radical pseudo-group the “antifa.” Sounds like a winning ticket!
The inside story of what it took to keep a Texas grocery chain running in the chaos of Hurricane Harvey. This is a great story.

Dianne Feinstein shows leadership
Senator Feinstein showed a little leadership by saying that Trump could be a good president. Of course her liberal audience booed the idea.
A federal appeals court overturned the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s approval of three proposed southeastern US natural gas pipelines and ordered the regulator to more closely examine potential environmental consequences of using gas that the systems would carry. The complaint seems to be that the natural gas would be used to generate electricity, which would generate CO2. Of course it would replace coal, which really generates CO2.
Regardless of your beliefs, here's an intersting study on the New Testament: The World's Only Unedited, Frameless, Correlative Anthology. Read about the unique literary properties of the Bible. Click on the graphic to expand it, and again to blow up segments.
Yet another article about how we are poorly served by the media: If the Media Doesn't Tell the Truth, What Use Is It?
"The Nation" is a reliably liberal magazine, so it is particularly noteworthy that they published an article saying that the DNC computers were not hacked by the Russians or anyone else, but that it was an inside job. Somebody in the DNC leaked the e-mails. Here's a follow-up story in the Washington Post thats more concise.
Austin Bay is contrasting Obama's and Trump's approach to Afganistan. Trump seems to be more interested in logical approaches.
A cool photo of a waterspout
Just one more example of a Trump Administration accomplishment that will be ignored by the media: eliminating a huge paperwork burden set to take effect with no benefit.
Mocking Texans, their faith and politics. You'd think the Left would have learned from Politico's debacle of a few days ago when even fellow-travelers protests' compelled the site to take down this cartoon.

The media thinks global warming causes Hurricanes
The media thinks global warming causes Hurricanes, even though the number of hurricanes is well below historical averages and real scientists are reluctant to assign blame.
Weather.com has a huge selection of pictures from hurricane Harvey. Scroll down to the picture with the little slide show underneath.
Our space station astronauts took a photo of the earth during the elcipse. Look for the dark shadow over Kentucky.
Do you hate those TV commercials for drugs that can neither pronounce or prescribe for yourself? Liz Sheld hates them too and expounds on the misallocation of funds for worthless promotion.
This is Houston. What are these people waiting in line for?
The media exploded in criticism over Melania Trump's shoes. Not a good fashion choice for touring hurricane devestation? Actually just fine for walking 200 feet from the White House to the helicopter.
The generals are happy. Trump has ended the practice of micromanaging the war, ending second guessing of commanders in the field.
I used to think a banana was a pejorative applied to orientals who acted white. Turns out that black people can be troubled by them also, to the extent that a fraternity function was cancelled and people were crying because their feelings were hurt. These people are supposed to be university students, not snowflakes.
They have Fire Ants in Houston. Do they drown in a flood? No, they form floating rafts and go with the flow.
The justice department is forcing Christian pastors to testify about their views on Islam. Read down into the article for the detail on Obama's hiring practices. It isn't even clear what their views have to do with the case, which has been settled, or what you would expect a Christian to thing about Muslims.
Glenn Reynolds argues that the solution in invasive species is to eat them. Here's a solution to the geese that are contaminating public parks.
Students of government intervention in people's lives won't be surprised to find that official dietary guidelines and conventional wisdom are wrong about fat. Here's a massive study on the subject.
