Medicare renewal time

For my older readers, it's open enrolment time for medical insurance. We are being bombarded with TV ads and direct mail with a confusing number of options and it's difficult to sort out the right solution. The people you can talk to are all working for some company. I thought this article in the Wall Street Journal was a little helpful.

San Francisco has very lax enforcement polices towards petty theft, like none. San Francisco Has Become a Shoplifter’s Paradise. Walgreens has closed 22 stores in the city, where thefts under $950 are effectively decriminalized.

Buttigieg and Family Leave. Buttigieg’s office told West Wing Playbook that the secretary has actually been on paid leave since mid-August to spend time with his husband, Chasten, and their two newborn babies.

World’s Fair Offers a New View of Michelangelo’s ‘David’: Just His Head. A nearly 17-foot 3-D printed replica at Italy’s pavilion in Dubai showcases the biblical hero with its famous face visible on one floor and its body on another. This article has interesting insight on the sculpture.

Go Nukes. Outside the White House, much of the world is moving toward reliable energy. More here: Common sense to the rescue. Japan’s carbon goal is based on restarting 30 nuclear reactors.

Education Horror Show, Continued. A teacher is targeted after she described the baleful effect of critical race theory.

Dave Chappelle May Help Tame Wokeness. There are other signs, too, that our revolution may be moving past its Terror and toward its Thermidor.

On a business trip to India, I found the people incredibly entrepreneurial but unable to build a great economy because of the restrictions imposed by the Socialist government. The tech sector has taken off because it's impossible to regulate the flow of information, but the rest of the country is stagnant. Perhaps things are changing: The privatization of Air India could mark the end of a long history of bureaucrats running the country’s businesses.

Steve Jobs died 10 years ago. This computer web site collected a series of his biggest moments in a video. It is fun to watch, since you lived through those times.

This is for my Norwegian wife. Viking Artifacts Give Precise Date for Europeans’ Earliest Presence in North America. New analysis of wooden artifacts shows Viking voyagers were living in Newfoundland as far back as 1021

Cracking codices: 10 of the most mysterious ancient manuscripts

Sheer Chaos and Anarchy on the Border, by Victor Davis Hanson: Afghanistan — the most humiliating defeat in recent U.S. military history, A labor-starved supply chain in shambles and holiday shelves emptying out, The worst inflation in 30 years that seems soon ready to match Carter-era levels, Gas hitting $5 a gallon with winter heating fuels soaring, Free-for-all looting in the major cities without consequences, Joe Biden’s policies and Biden himself diving in the polls. Never in recent American history has any administration birthed such disasters in its first nine months.

Sign of the Times. When the media’s credibility collapsed, the New York Times led the way. A long article but important to journalism. And if you got this far, be sure and read Bari Weiss' resignation letter.
